Ed Tang & the Chops
By Leslie Snyder
A long walk down memory lane begins in Asbury Park, New Jersey from an independent aggressive-folk/Americana quintet called Ed Tang & the Chops. This whimsical and passionate quintet sings songs about the simple pleasures of life while sounding similar to folk icon Bob Dylan with the “raspy” vocals and “groovy” aggressive-folk/Americana melodies. This collection of music will surely get one’s toes tapping. Ed Tang & the Chops will release their new self titled EP on June 7, 2014 featuring five heartwarming tracks that will include the entire quintet playing together.
The heartwarming journey begins with the first track “When Death should find us.” This track features “raspy” vocals and “rustic” aggressive-folk/Americana melodies. This track is a soul bearing, but “haunting” tale about a man who lives his life to the fullest. However, the man knows that death will come and he wants to die doing his favorite occupation which is playing music in “full throttle.” The man wants to be remembered as a “fun loving” person. Meanwhile, the heartwarming journey continues with both reflection and sadness in the third track “Brothers in the Way Back.” This track features sorrowful vocals and “weeping” aggressive-folk/Americana melodies. This track is a “heart wrenching” tale about a man who is really missing his family and friends from the past. The man had a lot of fun when he was younger. The man knows that he cannot go back to the past. So, the man cherishes those fond memories from his past.
Finally, the heartwarming journey ends with a glimmer of hope in the fifth track “Leaving of Liverpool.” This track features soulful vocals and “bubbly” aggressive-folk/Americana melodies. This track is a hopeful tale about a man who is leaving the town he loves in order to pursue his “rock and roll” dream. The man strongly believes that his goal is realistic and his future is looking bright.
Ed Tang & the Chops are a great independent aggressive-folk/Americana quintet that sings songs about life’s simple pleasures in a lighthearted manner. The quintet’s self titled EP will put huge smiles on the faces of many fans of folk and Americana music with its “groovy” melodies.
