“First Blood in Love” EP
By Leslie Snyder
The Earth trembles when it hears chanting, howling, and blowing winds roaring out of Northampton, Pennsylvania from an independent ambient rock/dream pop duo called Wondertaker. Wondertaker released their latest EP “First Blood in Love” on December 21, 2013 featuring seven intriguing, but “haunting” tracks about how humanity measures up to Mother Nature’s beauty and her wrath.
The intriguing journey begins with the first track “First Blood (In Love).” This track is a dark instrumental track featuring “spooky,” howling chants throughout the track. This track sounds like ghosts are “lurking” around a cemetery at night with a full moon hanging overhead in the sky. Meanwhile, the intriguing journey continues with a quiet calmness in the second track “Hands.” This track is a peaceful instrumental track featuring slow, “breezy” ambient dream pop melodies “fluttering” throughout the track. This track sounds like the trees and grass is gently blowing in the wind on a cool spring day with a person gently releasing a beautiful butterfly into the air.
Finally, the intriguing journey ends with endless beauty in the third track “Between Us.” This track is a heartwarming instrumental track featuring “angelic” dream pop melodies “floating” throughout the track. This track sounds like huge ocean waves are “crashing” as a loving couple is taking a long walk on a beautiful beach and admiring the gorgeous sunset.
Wondertaker is a great independent ambient rock/dream pop duo with remarkable musicianship. The duo’s latest EP “First Blood in Love” will make the hair stand up on the back of one’s neck. Wondertaker knows how to awaken one’s senses by letting one know how unpredictable Mother Nature cam be.
