A dark cloud hovers over Stevens, Pennsylvania from an unsigned solo gothic rock/post punk project called Cult Choir. Cult Choir is the creation of singer-songwriter Shane Graybill. Cult Choir released their third CD “Beautiful Funeral” on September 29, 2013 featuring twenty ominous tracks that will make one’s teeth rattle. The best way to describe the sound of Cult Choir is The Cure meeting Velvet Underground with “weeping” vocals and cold, “icy” gothic rock melodies.
The long, cold journey begins with the first track “Crying.” This track features sorrowful vocals and “eerie” gothic rock melodies. This track is a depressing tale about a person who finds sadness in whatever he or she does. This troubled person feels that he or she will never find happiness in life. Finally, the long, cold journey ends with sadness in the eleventh track “Happy Birthday.” This track features sorrowful vocals and “dreary” gothic rock melodies. This track is a lonely tale about a man’s birthday being full of self doubt rather than a happy celebration about his life.
Cult Choir is a brilliant unsigned gothic rock/post punk project that will blow one’s mind with “ghoulish” gothic rock melodies. The third CD “Beautiful Funeral” will definitely give a person “goose bumps.”
